Eleven candles, Milton and snow

After a solid three-month radio silence over Christmas, New Year and my European escape… I’m back. Slightly jet-lagged, mildly heartbroken (post-holiday blues are real), but creatively fizzing again.

In very exciting news Lemonface Creative turned 11 on March 1. Eleven! A whole pre-teen in business years. I’m too exhausted to celebrate this year with pomp and ceremony, but I did write a short story for you to enjoy about my European escapades featuring some of my fav snaps, read on.

Latest Projects

It’s all about Imaginate.

Imaginate closed on 20th Feb, with over 4,000 people through the doors (which still blows my mind). The feedback has been generous and energising, and I’m so proud of the collaborative spirit that carried the whole exhibition.

Finishing Milton, the bejewelled horse before heading off to Europe, was one of those creative stretch moments. He now has a new temporary home at GC HQ which feels fitting for a horse with main-character energy.

What I loved most was creating for the sake of it. No KPI. No algorithm. Just idea → hands → heart. I want more of that in my future.

Europe bitesize

I’ve been in Europe over our NZ summer… which was very much their winter. It was bloody cold. But it was also intense, beautiful and creatively electric. Primarily, this was a trip to the arctic to photograph the awe-inspiring Aurora Borealis, but I learned so much more than how to photograph Mother Nature’s most stunning display.

It shook something loose in me. In the best way.

Lemonface packed big zest and even bigger curiosity and took on London like a tiny citrus queen with shopping bags swinging, cocktails clinking, and mischief in every window reflection.

At the brooding old stones of the Tower of London, she found that even the darkest histories can spark the brightest ideas, before fluttering south to the Horniman Museum and Gardens butterfly house to make winged friends and trade secrets about colour.

She zipped north to Denmark, braving the crisp wind at Amalienborg, alas, the royal family was not home.

She twirled through Copenhagen, easily distracted by bikes, pastries, ice and beautiful everything before mermaid-spotting at Den Lille Havfrue.

She chased the fairy-tale in Odense, down cobbled lanes and picturesque buildings.

She continued on, venturing far north to Norwegian Arctic skies, meeting reindeer and Sámi friends under a hush of snow. She fell hard for the dreamy winter light…

…captured the candy-coloured charm of Reine at the edge of the Lofoten…

beat the crowds to the famous yellow shed in Sakrisøy…

…and finally stood spellbound as the northern lights danced above. It felt as though Lemonface and Mother Nature were painting the night together in greens, yellows and pinks, proving that when you travel with zest and awe, the world truly does glow back.
